Artist Bio
Rebecca Tabor is an artist and painter from Columbus, Georgia, currently attending Columbus State University for a B.F.A. in painting. Her work utilizes a variety of different natural mediums, combined with acrylic painting processes, to depict and convey differing ecological processes. Previous works, such as Ocean Gyres, 2023, and Oil, 2023, use synthetic materials to emulate water pollution, while her latest series uses natural materials to depict specific locations of these processes.
In my artwork, I depict ecological and biological phenomena that affect our day to day lives by using a variety of different media, including paint and found materials. The natural and synthetic materials I use directly relate to the subject matter of the works I create, and the processes by which they occur. For this series of works, I’m focusing on the bodies of water found in Georgia, and the pollutants that damage them. Each painting is made using the soil and water of the river that inspired it, as well as the process that threatens that environment. By mimicking the potential hazards to the water which we rely so heavily on, I aim to raise awareness about the conservation and protection of the waterways that fuel our state.
